As I sit here this evening I can hear the call to prayer, you will here this at least 4 times a day if not more. If only we as followers of Christ were so dedicated in our prayer life. I have been helping another student and I am very confident in reading, phonics, spelling but math was never my strength. She needs help in math. The first day I felt so unqualified to help this 3rd grader!. The level of education they receive here is a very high standard and nothing I remember in 3rd grade which would have been 56 years ago. I felt overwhelmed but wanted to help.
Here is one of the problems:
n-4 = (3 x 6) -2, now I knew that the answers had to equal each other but how do you show a child how to get to that answer. I had to have the teacher show me how they taught this equation. Here is the way,
n-4 = (3 x 6) -2
n-4 = 16 -2
n-4 = +4
confused yet? My devotion for that day was this scripture :
James 1:5 If anyone lacks wisdom you should ask God who gives generously to all, without finding fault and it will be given to you. A perfect verse for a very frustrating day for me trying to help a child. Each day I learn more and more just not about God and his goodness, but about myself and just how much I learn from each of these children.
I have been listening to a song lately by Sanctus Real and it is perfect for how unqualified I feel so many times. I will close with these lyrics. May God continue to bless all who have lifted me up in their prayers and supported me.
I’m not a Warrior, I’m too afraid to lose I feel unqualified for what you’re calling me to do But Lord with your strength , I’ve got no excuse, Because broken people are exactly who you use.
So give me Faith like Daniel in the lions’ den, Give me Hope like Moses in the Wilderness, Give me a Heart like David, Lord be my defense. So I can face my giants with Confidence.
You took a Shepherd boy and made him a King, So I’m gonna trust you and give you everything. I’ll be a conqueror because you fight for me. I’ll be a champion claiming your victory.
